What is U.S. Soccer Development Academy?
Following a review of elite player development in the United States and around the world, U.S. Soccer created the Development Academy in 2007. The Academy Program's philosophy is based on increased training, less total games, and more meaningful games using international rules of competition.
The Academy Program focuses on positively impacting everyday club environments and values individual development of elite players over winning trophies and titles.
The Academy sets the standard for elite environments for youth soccer clubs nationwide and is a part of U.S. Soccer's global leadership position in youth soccer that will impact thousands of players.

SFRPD fields and the Residency Requirement
SFGE acknowledges that, with our mission to provide the very best experience for teams at each level, there is no way we can compete at the highest levels of the Development Academy without appealing to a broader base. In doing so, we have attracted too many players from outside of the city limits and do not meet the strict eligibility requirements for SFRPD fields because of changes that we have made to the roster. While we have actually kept 15 San Francisco families in the city by offering the most competitive soccer environment that families have been seeking for years by driving to San Jose and San Mateo, SFGE will be practicing and playing matches on non SFRPD fields to ensure our level of soccer meets the standards that has contributed to our rapid growth. We are complying with SFRPD’s rules and want to ensure families that we will continue to be your best option for soccer in the city.
The Pathway
Our club has shaken up the youth soccer landscape in San Francisco and has created a buzz throughout the city. We develop players at the youngest age groups by emphasizing heavily on their technical development. We set the foundation for these individuals to be well-rounded soccer players; a philosophy that is proven through our success and recent approval into the US Soccer Development Academy program. SF Glens Evolution offers every level of competition starting from microsoccer to U18 including NorCal Premier, National Premier League, Champions League, US Soccer Development Academy, and Recreational league at various age groups
Coaching
Our academy boasts the highest level of coaches that are committed to one thing… Developing your child! SFGE has more A, B, and C licensed coaches whose only focus is coaching in the Celtic Academy. That means coaches are 100% involved with pushing the club forward. From former college and professional coaches to ex professional players, our coaching staff has a wealth of knowledge that is transferred onto the training pitch.

SFGE Development Academy Director -- Steve Sosa
Steven Sosa began his soccer career in San Rafael, California where he was spotted by a Dutch Head Scout. At 13, Steven moved to Holland and played for Sparta Rotterdams U13/14 Youth team. After a successful year in Holland, he was then selected for the U17 United States National Team. He went on to represent the United States in World Cup Qualifications and starting for the U17 National team in the World Cup in Ecuador. Sosa then came back stateside to play college soccer at UC Santa Barabara where he captained the group to is first ever BIG WEST Title and was name first team all conference.
Steven spent 9 years as Director of Coaching of Central Marin Soccer Club and has coached at College of Marin, Dominican University, University of San Francisco, Cal North ODP and Nor Cal PDP. In addition to is current role in the club, Steven also is working with the United States Soccer Federation as a scout for the U14-U20 National Team. He holds a USSF B license and NSCAA Advanced National and is currently finishing up is USSF A license.
When asked about his new role Steven said "I am very excited to get going on this new project for SFGE. This will be the only program of its kind in the city given that there is a direct pathway from the Micro ages into the Development Academy. A huge focus moving forward will be developing and grooming our Micro players to compete at this level. What the club has been able to accomplish in such a short period of time is incredible. There has been a lot of hard work that has been done to get to this point and now we want to push on and offer the best program possible, a program that San Francisco can be proud and a program that US Soccer can be proud of."
